Black Tie Affair – The Occasion

The annual Black Tie Affair is the premier fundraiser for the Tangipahoa African American Heritage Museum & Veterans Archives (TAAHM).

Since 1987, TAAHM’s Black Tie Affair has been one of the most anticipated and well-attended events held in the Tangipahoa parish region.  This event, incomparable to anything like it in this area, has three primary purposes:

  • to raise funds to support the museum’s vision of raising awareness and educating the community on the African American experience;

  • to bring together a diverse group of individuals who are:
    • interested and willing participants in the process of making our community a better place to live;
    • committed to raising the level of awareness and acceptance of each other as we co-exist in this world; and
    • active participants in the exchange of new ideas;

  • to have attendees gain a deeper appreciation of each other by experiencing an evening of socializing and networking.

This premier event has provided the venue for people from various geographical areas and diverse backgrounds and ethnicities to come together and meet and greet old friends and make new acquaintances.

This event also allows us to showcase our historic museum, one of the best kept secrets in Tangipahoa Parish.
